7th Nov 2005 - Map database added

A big change to the map system. We've created a map database which will be accessed through the game, and can be browsed through the website. The map browser page has been added today, in the Updates section of the website. Maps created by players in the game will be uploadable to this database, and all maps will be potentially downloadable to the game client when setting up new games. This will make it easy for players to share maps, but also allow us to keep statistics on which maps people are playing the most, and how they play them - how many turns per game, how long games take, even a user 'rating' for each map to see which are the most enjoyable.

Finally got around to storing all dates in the database in GMT rather than server time, and then displaying dates on the website according to the user's local time (as defined in the forum control panel), and in a more human readable format. So I now see my last turn sent date as Thu, 30 Jun 2005 at 17:56:00 rather than the less obvious 2005-05-30 12:56:00 (the server is 5 hours behind my time).

Why didn't I just do it properly in the first place?

Personal stats page added to the website for each registered player, and a player lookup box added to the side bar.

Tables added to the VIP Lounge section of the website showing some stats from the turn forwarding service - top 40 players with the most turns sent, turns received etc.

3rd June 2005

Naked War website opened to alpha testers. Turn forwarding service switched on. 3rd Alpha version made available for download.
